ANERLEY LIBRARY CLOSES – new book borrowing system at town hall in October
“The local history books will be moved to Penge library where they will be available upon request and to the Bromley local studies library.
“There are no compulsory redundancies as part of the closure.”
Anerley and Penge library in Maple Road will be housed in a new library in Green Lane – further away from Anerley library. Bromley council plan to install a new smart locker at Anerley town hall which allows local residents to borrow books without having to visit Penge.
A press release from Bromley council announcing the opening says the new building will provide more modern facilities, community space, additional computers and a wide selection of books.
The new, modern library with increased floor space and extensive book collection will replace existing facilities in Penge and at Anerley Town Hall.
NEW BORROWING SYSTEM AT ANERLEY TOWN HALL IN OCTOBER
A new state of the art Bibliotheca Smart Locker will be available at Anerley Town Hall, allowing local residents to borrow books in Anerley. Books can be ordered and picked up via touch screen self-service by using a library card, similar to online delivery systems.
Items are delivered to secure lockers which can only be opened by the borrower.
Computer and internet facilities will also be available in the reception area of the town hall, where the book locker will be located. The new facilities are likely to be available in October.
The council press release quotes council leader Cllr Stephen Carr who says: “This new library underlines our commitment to investing in first class services for residents, even in this difficult economic climate.
“This new, larger and more modern library in the heart of Penge town centre will be a focus for the community and provide a facility for the 21st century.
“Library users will not only be able to borrow books but be able to access council services and community space, borrow DVDs and use the internet all in one place” he adds.
Any books borrowed from the old Penge or Anerley libraries can be returned to the new library when it opens or any other Bromley library. The new increased opening hours will be:
Mondays from 10am to 7pm
Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9.30am to 5.30pm
Wednesdays from 9.30am to 1pm
Saturdays from 10am to 5pm
The library will be closed on Sundays.
