BY-ELECTION IN GIPSY HILL WARD – Lambeth council mourn the passing of Cllr Niranjan Francis
Cllr Niranjan Francis who represented Lambeth council’s Gipsy Hill ward passed away on Saturday, April 23 after a tough battle against cancer.
Cllr Lib Peck, Lambeth Council leader, said: “Many of you will know Francis for his dedication to the local community as a ward councillor, and also an active participant in the community bringing real energy and insight to the role.
“Many of us will his smiling face, serene manner and kind heart. “He will be missed both as a friend and as a colleague and I have expressed my condolences to his family on behalf of all at Lambeth council.”
Cllr Francis was first elected to Gipsy Hill ward in 2010 and he worked hard to improve safety in the area. As a local shop keeper and sub-postmaster he brought up his family in Lambeth and played an active role in supporting strong local schools as well as working to maintain local post office services.
There will be a book of condolence placed at West Norwood health and leisure centre in Devane Way for anyone who would like to relay a message to Cllr Francis’s family.
A by-election in Gipsy Hill ward will be held in due course and information will be made available once the date is approved. (Source: Lambeth council press release.)
