CRACK HOUSE BOARDED UP BY COUNCIL
A drugs den in New Addington has been boarded up and sealed off by the council.
On September 30, Croydon magistrates granted a three month closure order on the two-bed ground floor flat. This means nobody can enter the flat during that time.
“The property was a well-known source of noise and anti-social behaviour, and was being used as a ‘safe house’ for gang members to gather and store illegal drugs” said Croydon council in a statement..
“A search of the flat found cannabis and cocaine along with various other drug-related paraphernalia. The three male occupants were subsequently arrested.
“At the time of the raid, one of the men present told a council officer that the flat was being used as ‘a place to smoke and chill’.
“The council will now seek to repossess the property and if necessary, apply for a second closure order once the current one expires.”
Croydon’s cabinet member for safety and justice Cllr Mark Watson said: “We’re grateful to the neighbours who brought these problems to our attention, and I’m glad they will now be able to enjoy some respite.
“We will always take action in circumstances such as these, even if that means boarding up a property.
“Residents should not have to tolerate anti-social behaviour and the trouble caused by the individuals who used this property for drug taking.” (Source: Croydon council press release)
