CROYDON’S CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL CHALKS UP ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL WEEKEND….. CROYDON MILE RAISES THOUSANDS FOR SPORT RELIEF 2016
BEER PUMP: CROYDON’S CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL CHALKS UP ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL WEEKEND
The second Croydon Craft Beer Festival attracted more than 1,500 people to the council’s Clocktower arts complex over three days.
Building on last October’s inaugural event, the festival extended to an extra day and also saw the Braithwaite Hall and library forecourt packed with a wider selection of beers and even more live music and food than before.
The majority of tickets sold out in advance, and the remainder sold out quickly on the door.
More than 50 ales and ciders were available on tap with a further 100+ varieties served up in bottles and cans from some of the best and brightest new breweries in London, including Belleville, Kernel, Brew By Numbers, Weird Beard, and many more.
Local event sponsors The Cronx Brewery also laid on an exciting Darjeeling Mango Wheat beer especially for the festival, as well as a London Stout to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.
A spokesperson for the Croydon Craft Beer Festival organisers said: “The response to this event has been phenomenal, we can’t really believe it.
“Our first festival back in October was great but we learnt a few things from it to try and make this one even better, and I think the turnout shows that worked – we were completely sold out every night.
“People from all over Croydon, young and old, came down to our wonderful venue to sample the incredible array of beers we had. Everyone in the city has been enjoying an unprecedented quality and diversity of locally brewed beer, and it’s no different in Croydon. Craft is here to stay.”
The Croydon Craft Beer Festival was sponsored by The Cronx Brewery, Freshfields Market and Nudge Factory, with help and support from Croydon council and will be coming back to central Croydon later in the year
The organisers will also be organising a craft beer event as part of the Purley Food & Drink week on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 June, at Christ Church, Brighton Road. Tickets are available from Freshfields Market in Church Street, Croydon, The Wine Cellar in Station Parade, Sanderstead or online at www.craftybeerfests.co.uk (Source: Croydon council press release)
PARISH PUMP: CROYDON MILE RAISES THOUSANDS FOR SPORT RELIEF 2016
Almost 200 people turned out for Sport Relief on Sunday 20 March at the Croydon Sports Arena in South Norwood.
As well as a series of mile races there were games and raffles to help generate more cash for the annual Sport Relief charity event.
The money raised will add to the £15,000 collected through similar events held at the sports arena over the past few years.
The main race was started by Croydon’s cabinet member for culture, leisure, and sport Cllr Timothy Godfrey who said:
“We had a fantastic turnout of people of all ages and abilities, and I’m sure this will prove to be the best year yet for money raised for this worthwhile charity.
“The facilities at the arena are really excellent, and I hope the event also encourages more people to take advantage of them on a regular basis.”
Fundraising was helped by sponsorship from Wilmott Dixon Construction, Cyclinginstructor.com, Walker Construction (UK) Ltd., and the Whitehorse Road branch of Sainsbury’s. (Source: Croydon council press release)
