Congratulations to our fishmongers Veaseys who are the winners of Farm Shop & Deli Awards Fishmonger of the Year 2014! We are so proud of them – it’s much deserved!

Dover soles £25.95kg, lemon soles £15kg, fresh whole mackerel £9.95kg, mackerel fillets £1.50/100g, whole plaice £8.50kg plaice fillets £15.50kg, salmon fillet £21.95kg, whole bream £13.95kg, bream fillets £2.50 each, whole cooked crab £9kg, whole seabass £14.95kg, seabass fillets £3.25 each, red gurnard £9kg. Celebrating Burns Night? Arbroath smokies £15kg.
Guest cheese stall: Jared from London Cheesemongers is a Peckham resident who is utterly obsessed with cheese. Come along, try him out and let us know what you think. All of this week’s choices are made with raw milk – Swiss Gruyere from the Jura region, otherwise known as Grand Jura, Colston Bassett Stilton made by Billy Kevan in Nottinghamshire, St Jude made by Julie Cheyney in Hampshire, Innes Brick made by Joe Bennet in Staffordshire, Vasherin Mont D ‘Or made by the Sancey-Richard family in Franche-Comte.
Keeping Palace Pedalling: Our friend Alex is going to host a FREE bike clinic – locals can come along with their ailing bikes – he’ll have a look, help them diagnose the problem and teach them about basic tool use and how to look up tutorials on youtube.
Meat of the week: 20pc off merguez sausages from Jacob’s Ladder. We’ve been speaking to Jayne at Jacob’s Ladder about them stocking venison in the future – updates to come when we find out more.
Cakes: Gourmet sponge cakelettes from Abbie & Ana, aka The Tartelettes. Flavours this weekend include coffee, sticky toffee, apple & caramel plus the well loved lemon meringue tarts and bakewell tart.
Gluten Free: Due to popular demand we will now have a gluten free stall at the market every week. Good news for the coeliacs – you don’t have to miss out. This week there’s lots of new stuff from Mel’s Owl Kitchen tomorrow. Spiced pecan layer cake with amazing frosting, egg free, dairy free, gluten free chocolate Sachertorte, chocolate chip cookies, sugar free beetroot chocolate torte, pancetta & gruyere quiche plus the usuals – carrot cake, lemon drizzle, sausage rolls, brownies.
Hot street food: Freshly made crepes and galettes from Ty Janick & burgers from Jacob’s Ladder.
Veg of the week: Tatsoi/pak choi. Interesting winter green – stir fry or eat raw. Watch out for our recipe Asian Brisket with Tatsoi & Leeks.
New guest next week: Wade from The Grain Grocer will be joining us with grains, pulses, nuts, oils and refillable eco cleaning products. More info next week.
Market manoeuvres for Kids: Our kids love being part of the market – do you think yours would like it too? We are offering slots for children to come along and get involved. One hour of helping (along with a parent) – a chance to see what goes on and do some Very Important Jobs! Booking necessary – see food market website.
Thanks so much to the many who have nominated us for ‘Best Food Market’ in the BBC4 Radio Food and Farming awards. The link is on our website if any of more of you would like to help us get shortlisted. Don’t worry about all the details on the form – what the market means to you, in your own words is great.
