FAREWELL TO THE CARBERRY ROAD ‘POND’
A new drain has been installed in Carberry Road.
A Croydon council spokesman told News From Crystal Palace: “The new gully at the end of Carberry Road was installed by the council to deal with the ponding issue which was preventing pedestrians from crossing at the junction with Westow Street.”
Asked about another local ‘pond’ – the one outside the former Cambridge pub on the building’s Church Road side the spokesman added:
“There is a proposal by Bromley council to resurface the whole junction in July 2016 in order to address the flooding issues. “This would enable the levels to be adjusted so that surface water runs into the nearest gullies.
“In addition, Croydon are looking to install two new gullies on Church Road junction with Westow Hill and we are currently in discussions with Thames Water to identify the best way to connect the gullies into their sewer.”
Concerns over the ‘ponds’ were raised in a Crystal Palace Chamber of Commerce magazine article back in 2009.
