FIRE BRIGADE AND UK POWER NETWORKS CALLED TO BEARDELL STREET INCIDENTS
LONDON Fire Brigade and UK Power Networks have been called to separate incidents in Beardell Street off Westow Hill in the past eight days.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson told News From Crystal Palace: “We were called at 1400 to Beardell Street Upper Norwood on Wednesday 29th July, to reports of a gas main alight.
“One person was evacuated before the arrival of the brigade.
“Two fire engines from West Norwood fire station attended the incident.
“The gas was isolated and duty of care handed over to the site management. “The incident was over for the Brigade at 1736. “We don’t give out exact addresses.”
A UK Power Networks spokesperson told News From Crystal Palace today (Friday): “Yesterday (6 August) we received a report from a customer in the Crystal Palace area concerning what appeared to be an exposed cable at a building site.
“Our engineers quickly attended to investigate and discovered that a cable had been connected to our network without our authorisation, therefore we had to isolate power supplies to 17 customers at 11:25 while we carried out our essential work to remove this connection.
“All customers had their power restored by 12:15.”
Last week, there was a larger power outage which affected the library and a number of shops on Westow Hill for most of the day. This was due to the cutting of a mains supply.
As with the previous incidents, it was fortunate that no one or other properties were injured / harmed. What is most alarming is the serial nature of the incidents and the total lack of concern and indeed, apology to local residents and businesses.
Some reasonable behaviour and social responsibility would resolve the concerns of locals but that seems beyond some people.
