GIPSY HILL BY-ELECTION HUSTINGS
A hustings will take place for the Gipsy Hill Ward by-election next Monday (May 23rd) to which all seven candidates have been invited.
The hustings will take place on Monday 23rd May at Christ Church, Gipsy Hill, 1 Highland Road, SE19 1DP. The event will be chaired by Jonathan Croucher, Vicar of Christchurch, and will start at 7.30pm (doors open 7.00pm).
Organisers say: “Controversial plans by the Labour council for the demolition of the local Central Hill estate and the slashing of the professional library service at the Upper Norwood library are likely major topics for questions to potential councillors.”
CRYSTAL PALACE TRANSITION TOWN CELEBRATES FIFTH BIRTHDAY
Crystal Palace Transition Town will be celebrating their fifth birthday on Wednesday May 25th at the Salvation Army centre on Westow Street at 7.15pm.
Scores of transition town projects have been started in the area by local people since the group was set up. These include Crystal palace food market; the edible bus station; St John’s meadow; The Sensible Garden (with the South Norwood Board), cookery and gardening workshops; Community Clean-Ups; and Green drinks and the tipsy garden at the Grape and Grain pub.
