LAMBETH COUNTRY SHOW ‘FESTIVAL OF LOVE’
Lambeth is gearing up for this year’s Country Show with more than 300 attractions confirmed for the weekend.
More than 100,000 people are expected in Brockwell park on 18th and 19th July to enjoy the best music, food, fun and activities South London has to offer.
The 41st Lambeth Country Show is being dubbed the Festival of Love, and will feature some top bands performing on the main stage along with a fun fair, main arena shows such as horse jousting and dog display teams, bars, food stalls, flower displays, a farmers’ market and animals of all shapes and sizes.
Lambeth council are putting on the event free of charge. It will run with new timings from 12 noon to 8pm.
Lambeth’s cabinet member for neighbourhoods Cllr Jane Edbrooke said: “The Country Show is something we all look forward to every year – it’s the highlight of our social calendar in Lambeth and I can’t wait for this year’s event.
“There really is something for everyone and I’m sure it will prove as popular as ever. “Lambeth is full of friendly, creative and talented people, and this weekend brings everyone together in the wonderful location of Brockwell park.
“A great deal of work goes in to organising the show every year and I’m proud that we can keep it going even in these tight financial times.”
Performers include soul disco act Odyssey and traditional African jazz group Frititi featuring Ghanaian drumming sensation Ni Tagoe. Kenyatta Hill of legendary reggae band Culture will be leading the party on the Sunday.
Reggae groups Misty in Roots and Rasites will also be taking to the main stage.
There will be ten different ‘zones’ throughout the weekend including the main stage, main arena, activate, village green, cultivate, farm zone, flower zone, charity zone, food hall and craft/complementary therapy.
There is also the brand new ‘eco-zone’, where you can find energy producing boutique toilets, our onsite bee hive and local environmental organisations. The eco-action games will also be there for children of all ages to get involved and learn about caring for the planet.
Vauxhall city farm are joining the fun and setting up a mini petting area full of farmyard animals and there will also be a mini-zoo with creepy crawlies and meerkats as well as an owl show and sheep shearers. Our ‘best in show’ will also be back bigger and better than before with over 70 different breeds of sheep.
A secure cycle park will make it easy for those who want to cycle to Brockwell park, with police on hand to offer anti-theft marking for bikes.
