VOTE FOR BRYHER!
Here’s an election with a difference: Upper Norwood resident Bryher Scudamore’s autodotbiography.com needs another 500 votes for a chance to reach the next stage of ‘Pitch to Rich’ – the Rich being Richard Branson.
Voting closes tomorrow night (Wednesday) at 5pm.
Virgin Media Business has launched a nationwide competition, with an unprecedented £1million business accelerator prize fund, to find the country’s most exciting and innovative businesses.
autodotbiography was created by Bryher, who came up with the idea when her beloved mother, Peggy, died. Going through Peggy’s papers Bryher realised how much more there was to discover and desperately wished she had found out more during her mother’s lifetime. And so she vowed to try and help others not to make the same mistake.
She knew that the rich or famous, could employ expensive ghost writers to pen their autobiographies, but what of the majority of people who had a precious story to tell their family, but who felt they couldn’t afford to employ a writer and who were also daunted by the prospect of tackling it on their own?.
After 12 years of working on the idea, autodotbiography was gently launched at the ‘Who Do You Think You Are?” exhibition in February 2011.
Bryher Scudamore is now managing director of the company, autdotbiography Ltd, with her husband Paul Scudamore the second director. Bryher started her career in newspapers and then joined the BBC working her way up to becoming Editor of “That’s Life!” one of the BBC’s most popular programmes with audiences of up to 22 million; Editor in Chief in the early days of BBC Online; and Channel Editor of one of the BBC’s first digital channels UK Horizons. This is her first step into creating and running her own business.

“EVERY CLOUD’S GOT A SILVER LINING….”
DULWICH WOOD PRIMARY school have come a very close second in a Friends of the Earth competition to win £15,000 to spend on solar panels – but every cloud has a silver lining!.
“Some really generous donors have come forward and given us an amazing £7,500 for our solar project!” say the Bowen Road, Dulwich school in a post on Virtual Norwood.
“So we’re already halfway to our original target – now the challenge is to raise the rest.
“Solar panels will do so much for us. “As well as helping combat climate change, they will save us thousands on energy bills – money that we could then spend on resources for the children, giving them an even better environment to play and learn in.
“We want Dulwich Wood Primary to be the best school it can be. “So please support us in raising the money we need to get us running on sun. Every little counts – if everyone who voted in the competition donates just £1, we’ll have enough to pay for the solar panels.”
TRANSITION TODDLERS…..
Crystal Palace Transition Town’s newest group ‘Transition Kids’ now has two new groups – with a third on the way.
Transition Babies (0-5 years)
The group meet (with babies/toddlers in-tow) every Friday morning to chat informally, share tea, cakes and experiences, and discuss different topics each week (such as cloth nappies, organic vs. local food, feeding toddlers, baby-lead weaning, gardening for tots, sugar & salt-free recipes, forest schools/nurseries, Transition Towns info, permaculture for kids, summer festivals for families, etc.).
Please join the Facebook group for updates and more info. Participants are welcome to request topics they’d like to know more about, and to discuss a topic themselves. New ideas welcome!.
We are also looking for parents with a couple of hours a month to help out with the admin of this group, to make it more fun and resilient for us all.
Transition Tiddlers (5-8 years)
There isn’t a leader for this group yet- if you’d like to get involved in this age range please get in touch via the facebook page.
Transition Teens (8-16 years)
The first event will be a citizen science activity. Please watch the facebook group for the date and details. (Source: Crystal Palace Transition Town newsletter).
