NEXT YEAR’S Crystal Palace Overground festival will take place from June 26th to June 29th.
The first monthly drop in meeting to start organising what is now the area’s main annual event will be at the Methodist church hall on Westow Hill (side door to the hall) at 8pm on Thursday December 5th. (Entrance to the hall is in Coopers Yard to the side of the Iceland store).
The message from the festival team is: “The festival team are looking forward to their first drop in meeting with the organising team and members of the community who are interested in getting involved in the festival in any way.
“There will be organisers from all of the festival teams at the meeting to talk about different aspects of the event. “Come along for a cup of tea and a cake and more info.
ZEBRAS ARRIVING IN FEBRUARY
ZEBRA crossings planned for Church Road will be arriving in February.
A Croydon council spokesman told News From Crystal palace: “Zebras were planned to go in around now but due to other roadworks (Goat House bridge works) our traffic management team asked us to delay until early February.
“We got the posts in early so as not to delay the power connections for the flashing beacons” he added.

ROCKMOUNT SHINES FOR CUTTING CAR USE
Rockmount School has been named by Transport for London (TfL) as one of the four best primaries in London for promoting safe cycling and walking amongst pupils, parents and staff.
Children and teachers from Rockmount were recognised at an annual event at London’s City Hall which saw the best performing schools in the capital praised for their efforts over the past twelve months.
TfL’s ‘STARS’ (Sustainable Travel: Active, Responsible, Safe) scheme assesses school travel plans, and some 40 per cent of London schools are now registered.
Rockmount has achieved a gold STARS standard and stood out above every other primary school in the region for its success in cutting car use and increasing the number of journeys made by bicycle or on foot. (Source: Croydon council press release)
WATER MAIN FINALLY REPAIRED
A LEAKING water main in Haynes Lane was repaired after News From Crystal Palace contacted Thames Water.
A Thames Water spokeswoman told NFCP on October 23rd: “This is our timeline: August 16th – leak first reported. Engineer went out but could not see the leak.
“September 5th – engineer attended again and found leak and raised an order for a repair. It was assessed as low priority
“September 17th – engineer checked on the leak again
“Then last week, we received a number of reports about the leak and we escalated it to a high priority. “The leak was repaired on Wednesday (October 16th).
“We fix leaks across our 20,000-mile network of water mains in order of severity.“We’re really sorry for the length of time taken to carry out a repair.
“When we first investigated the leak it was graded as a low priority but we should have fixed it sooner. “As soon as it was reported as having worsened we escalated the repair and fixed it that week.”

TOM BROWN’S BOOKDAYS
AUTHOR TOM BROWN will be discussing all things Crystal Palace at Upper Norwood joint library on Saturday December 14th.
Plotlines of his latest novel Strange Air include the park and ‘pneumatic’ railways, Tom will talk about his inspiration for Strange Air and his research on the Crystal Palace, Crystal Palace park and the so-called pneumatic trains of the mid-19th century.2.30pm – 3pm followed by a question and answer session at 3.30pm.
Tom will sign copies of Strange Air and his first novel, So Long, Shakespeare. Copies of both books will be available to buy at the library on the day.

TRAVELLERS IN THE PARK
FRIENDS OF CRYSTAL Palace park say they were advised on October 18th that 20/ 25 traveller caravans entered Crystal Palace park via the car park at Sydenham gate, off Crystal Palace Park Road. The police and Ward security were in attendance and the process of eviction was completed over the following two days.

From Tuesday 5th November these classes will start at 10:30 until 12. They will include painting, still life drawing, sewing and many more fun arty activities. A child minder is provided on site to look after your little ones while you develop your artistic side.

Pilates is a body conditioning routine that may help build flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips, and back. It puts emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing, and developing a strong core or center, and improving coordination and balance. Classes are Thursdays 1-2pm.

IT session have no restrictions but Art, Zumba and Pilates require you to be over 19 years of age, live within the Bromley borough and have lived in the UK or EU for 3 years or more.
