OVERGROUND FESTIVAL GET BIG LOTTERY MONEY – JUST £4,000 TO FIND…..
Organisers of the Crystal Palace Overground festival are celebrating a grant of almost £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All programme.
The free five-day festival being held in late June is run by volunteers and supported by local businesses, will start with fringe events around Crystal Palace in anticipation of the main big festival weekend.
Noreen Meehan, festival director, said: “Big Lottery Awards for All funding has come at just the right time, giving our fundraising efforts a massive boost. “Awards for All will help us recruit and train the volunteers we need for the festival and we are extremely grateful for their support.”
“We launched a public donations campaign last month to raise £19,000 and today, thanks to Big Lottery funding, key role volunteer support and donations from the local community we have just £4,000 to find to reach our fundraising target and keep the festival free for all.”
The festival, which will take place from Wednesday 24 June – Sunday 28 June 2015, is proud of its unique role in celebrating the spirit of the Crystal Palace community, as well as drawing in a diverse audience from further afield.

… AND OUR INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL SEEKS SPONSORS TOO! (and new venues)
“Let’s make CPIFF 2015 even bigger!”
After the roaring success of last year’s Crystal Palace International Film Festival (CPIFF), organisers are on the look out for local partners and sponsors for this year’s event.
“Our 2014 celebrity endorsed festival sold out well in advance, now we need to expand to cater for the huge demand” say the film festival organisers. “We have huge benefits for local partners and sponsors.
“Now in our sixth year CPIFF is a unique cinematic experience. “We combine some of the world’s best independent films with culinary experiences in unconventional funky local venues.
“The 2014 festival sold out well in advance and thrilled audiences with a rich, eclectic selection.
” Held over two weeks in November, 12 nights of films, nine genres. a total of 69 films were screened including four World premieres, 11 European premieres and seven UK premieres.
“Since 2010 we have transformed eight venues into cinematic experiences – St John the Evangelist (corner of Auckland Road and Sylvan Road) , Stanley Halls, (South Norwood); All Saints Church (corner of Church Road and Beulah Hill); Phoenix community centre (Westow Street) Twenty-Five bar (Westow Hill – currently closed), Westow House pub (Westow Hill; Gipsy Hill Tavern (Gipsy Hill) and upstairs at the Sparrowhawk pub (cormer of Westow Street / Westow Hill).
“Attendance increased by 46 per cent in 2014 compared with 2013, with a sold out capacity of 1121 “Our ticket sales potential is outstripping our capacity and we are actively seeking new venue opportunities.
“The venue is the soul of our festival, using unusual spaces to create atmosphere and memorable cinematic experiences. “This, along with the range and quality of films represent the festival’s unique selling point.
“It is important to continue this as we grow and acquire bigger venues. “Investment is needed
in infrastructure and logistics to enable us to convert unexpected locations into cinematic dining experiences.
“Our future ambition is to have a spectacular red carpet CPIFF finale erecting a marquee on the site of the original Crystal Palace.”
Equipment: “We are looking to invest in new state of the art screening and sound equipment to enhance the presentation and audience experience.
Festival Profile: “Last year we had film makers fly in from USA, Australia, Kazakhstan, France, Germany and Taiwan. “We are constantly looking at how we can increase our reach and further establish our festival through advertisements on industry recognised film websites.”
Brand Awareness: “CPIFF has become synonymous with unique cinematic experiences, the
Crystal Palace community and the iconic landmark. “We are looking for investment to promote the brand through merchandise, advertisements at other like-minded film festivals and through bespoke awards.”
Investment in People: “The volunteers involved in running CPIFF have been key to its success. “CPIFF can only grow if we invest in the dedication, skills and time our local volunteers give. Investment will provide recruitment adverts, induction packs, branded T shirts, transportation and additional vital event management training.
“We are looking to work with new people and brands to bring more innovative ideas to our audience and bring great benefits to our sponsors and partners:
