SECRET DIARY OF A LAMBETH LABOUR COUNCILLOR (age uncertain) – Chapter Two
CABINET VENUES
Our cabinet will be voting to demolish Central Hill estate at its meeting on December 12th. We’re holding the November cabinet meeting at Bolney Meadow community centre, 31 Bolney Street London SW8. It starts at 5pm.
Bolney Meadow Community Centre is 10 mins walk from Vauxhall Station (mainline); 12 mins from Stockwell or Oval Station (Northern Line). Bus 88 and 2 are less than five mins from the Centre.
The Centre is situated half way down Bolney Street set within the estate and the building can be seen from the road. So if we hold our December cabinet meeting at Bolney as well that should stop the Central Hill lot turning up to complain.
We did the same thing when the overview and scrutiny committee discussed the Cressingham Gardens estate in Tulse Hill. Even though Cressingham was the only item on the agenda we held it in a health centre about eight to 10 minutes walk from Stockwell tube.
And they still turned up. When will they learn?
Those same tiresome individuals from Cressingham Gardens dragged our officers up to the High Court for another judicial review this week trying to stop us from demolishing their homes. What a nerve these people have.
As Mr James Goudie QC, instructed by Lambeth council, at this week’s totally unnecessary three-day judicial review (three days – I ask you!) said on Wednesday:
“The council is obviously the ultimate decision-maker after a lawful consultation has been carried out……
“The council cannot be compelled to proceed with a refurbishment that it regards as a thoroughly bad option on both financial and non-financial grounds……
“The council has consulted very extensively and there has been no lack of public participation……”
In other words, regardless of what anyone says, we can do what we damn well want – and stuff what anyone else thinks.
TED KNIGHT
Ted Knight has been elected chairman of Gipsy Hill ward of our beloved Labour party. What a disgrace. We’ll soon get rid of him the way we stopped Cllr Rachel Heywood. And the rest of that Momentum bunch who have been elected onto the ward committee. Disgusting! We can do what we damn well want – and stuff what anyone else thinks.
CARNEGIE LIBRARY HERNE HILL
And we’re going full steam ahead with our plans to let Greenwich Leisure take over the Carnegie library.
The Friends of Lambeth Libraries are complaining that we’re giving Greenwich Leisure ‘first dibs’ and that there is no sign of any Lambeth / GLL business plan, market research or financial projections. So what? We can do what we damn well want – and stuff what anyone else thinks.
