COUNCIL HUNTS FRIDGE FLY-TIPPERS
Croydon council are appealing for information after two men were caught on camera dumping a refrigerator on a South Norwood street.
CCTV operated by council enforcement officers recorded a Mercedes estate car pulling up to the junction of Sunny Bank and Manor Road around 12.30am on 1 August. Two men then carried the four-foot fridge from the car to a fence by a neighbouring house before leaving.
The council is appealing for witnesses to come forward, including a pedestrian who walked past the men as they carried the fridge, as well as the drivers of an orange hatchback and a white van who also passed by.
Convicted fly-tippers can face a maximum £50,000 fine and a year in prison. Using the council’s bulky waste collection service costs no more than £40 for fridge-sized goods.
The appeal comes as part of the council’s Don’t Mess With Croydon – Take Pride campaign, which has already prosecuted more than 25 people for fly-tipping, dog fouling, littering and spitting, including a man jailed for six months in May for fly-tipping 42 tonnes of waste.

NAG’s annual general meeting and social night has been moved to Thursday 17th September. This is to accommodate our guest speaker council leader Lib Peck who will address us and take questions.
The main theme is When will Lambeth residents feel like valued customers of Lambeth services? You would expect high standards from a commercial enterprise and shouldn’t Lambeth emulate? It should be a worthwhile evening!
Go to our Facebook agm page, register that you’ll be there and invite all your neighbourhood Facebook friends.
AND FINALLY….
Norwood Forum volunteers on Feast were asking “what would you like to see in West Norwood?” “More dinosaurs” said one eight year old!
