CRYSTAL PALACE FILM FESTIVAL NEEDS MAJOR SPONSOR

19 Oct
THE 2012 Crystal Palace International Film Festival finishes tonight (Friday) – with a plea from organisers to help them find a substantial sponsor.

A message on the CPIFF website cautions: “It is unlikely that CPIFF can continue at its current level or continue to grow without a substantial sponsor as it is simply too much work for our means – so if anyone can suggest companies or recommend us to some please do so!

“The 2012 festival has been extremely well attended especially our big screen nights at All Saints Church, animation night and launch night at Twenty-Five – a fab venue. “It is certainly growing considerably each year.

“The official selections for 2012 along with synopses and trailers showing clips of most of the screened films can still be seen on the finalists page. “Once again we’ve had hundreds of films sent from literally all over the world. “Top quality was shown on every single night of the festival and this is the main attraction.

“Only a few tickets left for tonight’s comedy shorts and CPIFF Awards, book now here: www.ticketsource.co.uk/cpiff – it’s at the fabulous All Saints church.

“Mark Steel enjoyed himself so much hosting last year’s awards night he’s insisted we let him do it again this year,”

CPIFF is organised by Neill Roy of Harlequin Productions. The festival provides opportunities for film makers to have their work screened at selected venues around Crystal Palace to a passionate audience of film professionals, journalists and the general public and the chance to win a Best in Category or a Best in Festival CPIFF award selected by a panel of celebrity and respected industry judges. The audiences get the opportunity to see top quality film making in genres and lengths that do not get mainstream platforms.

BIGGER PICTURE IN VICTORY PLACE ON SATURDAY (OCTOBER 20TH)

BIGGER PICTURE Gallery hold their 10th Pop Up in Victory Place on Saturday October 20th with three new photographers and printmakers – Saskia van der Sluis, Richard Snatt and Rob Wass.

There are screenprints by Rob Wass;

Photographs by Saskia van der Sluis, a Dutch photographer, studied at the Royal Academy of Arts, The Hague, Netherlands, currently based in London.

“Looking at the millions of people that live here and are on the move through this monumental city every day. “Quite overwhelmed by the magnitude: by the numbers, the shapes and sizes of it all. “Trying to make things a bit easier to digest by focussing on details in architecture/ urban landscape, by restraining the use of colour, for instance. “And looking out for decisive moments in people’s actions and motions, always in relation to their place in the landscape.”

and works by photographer and printmaker Richard Snatt
“I have a straightforward approach to my art, I make nothing over complicated, I see the beauty in simple things. “At the moment I am following two strands to my creativity photography and printmaking:

“One extends from my visual curiosity of the things I see about me, taking photographs of forgotten or lost moments and vistas, seeing objects that to some are no longer important, or perhaps forgotten and ignored views.
“I try to give back some of that importance by recognising the natural beauty of the moment, making small insignificant items or viewpoints once again have value through the photograph. “The images are then manipulated minimally to give them a slightly nostalgic or romantic feel.
“I also love typography in its quite pure form: my collagraph prints have a simplicity that allows the individual letter or numbers to be seen and enjoyed for what they are. “Building up layers of cut out type in different fonts, “I play with their structure, balance and form to make a visually exciting but slightly raw print that enables the materials to speak for themselves.”

Say BPG: “The weather is forecast to be dry in our part of London so we are looking forward to putting on a great show. “After that you can pop across the road for a coffee or spot of lunch and see a show of 10 new works by BPG’s founding member Angelique Hartigan in Domali cafe (38 Westow Street) entitled ‘A Year in Crystal Palace’.”
Victory Place is located just opposite Sainsbury’s on Westow Street, Crystal Palace. Nearest stations: Gipsy Hill and Crystal Palace.
“A Year in Crystal Palace” an Exhibition of new paintings by Bigger Picture Gallery founding member Angelique Hartigan at Art@Domali  38 Westow Street, Crystal Palace SE19 3AH which is almost opposite the exhibition.

About Bigger Picture Gallery:

“By making art accessible to the community and residents of the district and bringing artists together we will assist in sustaining a significant arts movement and hope to return our local area to the cultural destination that it once was.  “We are providing a network for individuals who often work in isolation to interact and share ideas.
“By helping to keep the high street alive during difficult economic times we are assisting property owners to display premises in their most favourable light and improving the street scene.”
