Bromley council are currently in the process of co-ordinating the submission of a first round application to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) under their Parks for People programme. The programme supports regeneration projects and activities in parks throughout the UK. As part of this first round application a Park User Survey needs to be completed. The Survey will be used to establish current park user numbers. In addition the community stakeholder group will gather data on who uses the park, why they visit the park and where they have come from. “The Survey data will also be used to project park user numbers after the Heritage Lottery Fund investment has been made” say the group. “This will enable us to consider how we widen the visitor base of Crystal Palace park.” A more involved consultation period will begin should this HLF grant be awarded. The purpose of the consultation will be to seek community views on the proposed improvements. The community stakeholder group, along with other local community groups, are planning on running two main volunteering sessions on each day. The morning session starts at 8.30 am and finishes at 1 pm and the afternoon session starts at 12.30 pm and finishes at 5 pm. “Each session will start with a briefing held at the Information Centre (near the Penge Gate of the park) where we will give you all the information and equipment you need to help complete the Survey. “Please note that you do not have to volunteer for the whole morning or afternoon session but we are asking that volunteers give a minimum of two hours. About Foodbanks: Schools, churches, businesses and individuals donate non-perishable, in-date food to the foodbank. All food given out by foodbanks is donated. ‘Supermarket Collections’ are one of the main ways that food is donated. These are food drives held at supermarkets where volunteers give shoppers a ‘foodbank shopping list’ and ask them to buy an extra item or two for local people in crisis. Volunteers sort food to check that it’s in date and prepare food parcels ready to be given to people in need. Frontline care professionals identify people in need Care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, social workers, CAB and police identify people in crisis and issue them with a foodbank voucher. Foodbank clients bring their voucher to a foodbank centre where it can be redeemed for three days emergency food. Volunteers meet clients over a cup of tea or free hot meal and are able to signpost people to agencies able to solve the longer-term problem.   CRYSTAL PALACE LIFE   A new blogspot for people in Crystal Palace, Norwood, Dulwich, Sydenham and Penge has been set up.
