WATER SUPPLY “TO BE FIXED BY JUNE”
Croydon North MP Steve Reed has visited the Thames Water pumping station in Upper Norwood to see for himself how upgrade works are coming along.
Mr Reed demanded action from Thames Water last year after Crystal Palace residents suffered repeated failures in water supply and low pressure.
“The inconvenience of being unable to wash, bath the children, flush the toilet or even make a cup of tea left residents seething at Thames Water’s failure” says an item on Mr Reed’s website.
“In October Mr Reed called Thames Water bosses in to meet residents and explain how they were going to put things right.
“Thames Water agreed to share detailed plans of repair works and keep residents informed about risks to supply until the problem is fixed.
“On a visit to the Upper Norwood pumping station Thames Water showed Mr Reed new booster pumps that will ensure a more regular and secure supply of water across Upper Norwood and Crystal Palace. “They confirmed that works are on course to be completed by June.
“Mr Reed has also backed residents’ demands for refunds of part of their water bill in compensation for ongoing failures in supply.”
Speaking outside the pumping station,Mr Reed said: “We’ve seen too many problems with the water-pumping system in the Crystal Palace area over the past year.
“I’m pleased to see Thames Water are now upgrading the old system, but I’ll keep an eye on them to make sure the problems are fixed and there’s running water every time people turn on the taps.”
