PARENTS WHO have bought “potentially deadly” baby-walkers and car seats on eBay are being urged by Croydon council’s trading standards officers to contact their colleagues in Birmingham.
The warning comes after trading standards officers in Birmingham seized hundreds of the baby walkers that were being sold, via eBay, by a company in their area.
Croydon’s trading standards department is urging anyone who has bought such products manufactured by the Chinese company Ganen Group to stop using them immediately.
A Croydon council spokesman said: “On testing, the baby walkers and car seats failed the safety standards. “Due to poor construction, the walkers could collapse, causing injury to a child. “The car seats, too, collapsed and failed to protect a baby test dummy in a simulated crash test.
“Both products could lead to severe or fatal injuries” warned the spokesman.

Cllr Simon Hoar, cabinet member for community safety, said: “If you’re buying any children’s product, you should check it has passed strict European safety regulations.
“While an online bargain may be appealing, you should only buy from a reputable trader or shop, and always check the goods have a British Standards ‘kite mark’ and that they come with clear instructions that are written in English.
“It’s not an exaggeration to say that the sub-standard car seats and baby walkers confiscated in Birmingham present a real danger to babies and toddlers, and their discovery highlights the risks.“
